The three things that matter most are arms that run to the front of the seat so residents can push off them, a seat height around 18"–19" so standing doesn't start from a deep squat, and a frame rated well above the seated weight because the load goes through the arms and front legs during transfer. Ask for the cleaning code and the barrier spec in writing; a fabric that fails a sanitizer test looks fine for three months and then looks finished.
